It comes as no surprise to the folks from the small, southern town of Athens, Alabama that Lauren Wray, the bright blue-eyed cutie with the eclectic mix of rock and roll meets hillbilly style, has found herself partnered up with pickin’ pals Mike Wolfe, Frank Fritz, and Danielle Colby. Lauren can be seen as a member of the History Channel’s American Pickers, as well as part of the team at Antique Archaeology in Nashville, Tennessee. Visitors and viewers will no doubt be charmed by Lauren’s genuine friendly disposition, infectious energy and love for antique treasures, that goes as far back to the days of working at her dad’s pawn shop in Limestone County.
Growing up, Lauren was a spit fire with an imagination like no one else, and arguably one of the funniest, wittiest and most multi-talented kids that our small town has seen. Even as a youngster she was well read, a painter, writer, singer and always my home video costar (not of the Kardashian variety). Her first real world achievement came at just 15 years old, when an article she wrote was published in Reader’s Digest. If the rest of us 15 years olds had known what the hell Readers Digest was back then, it would have made for some serious bragging rights. Lauren attended Athens High School and was voted “Class Favorite” and “Most Theatrical” by her peers.
After high school, Lauren moved to Murfreesboro, TN where she attended Middle Tennessee State University and majored in Anthropology. After college, she worked at the Center for Historic Preservation. However, Lauren eventually moved onward to pursue more artistic endeavors that would allow her to showcase her love of the arts and entertainment. So, she headed up the road to Nashville. While many young adults wait for opportunity to come knocking on the door, Lauren was out pounding the Nashville pavement. Ever the opportunity maker, she landed an internship with Manuel, a rock and roll costume designer known as the Rhinestone Rembrandt and cowboy couturier. Ambitious and driven, Lauren wasted no time showing her boss what she could do and soon became Manuel’s right hand ma’am. Lauren has always had a knack for getting herself into interesting situations... this was no exception. As the assistant to Manuel, she worked with Axl Rose, George Jones, Jack White, Jennifer Tilly, Kid Rock and Little Richard, as well as working wardrobe on the set of Hannah Montana: The Movie. And lest we forget starring in Country Strong with Gwyneth Paltrow and Garrett Hedlund in the oh-so-coveted role as “Waitress #4”...
We know what my friend Lauren is up to now... and you know the rest of the story. It’s as they say, “TO BE CONTINUED.” -Brooke Norton (Lauren's Best Friend since, well, we won't say how long.)
